DTN COMMENTS: A few bids have been renewed in Kansas at midmorning, and
we expect that packer inquiry will continue to improve as the day
progresses. Beef cutouts are expected to be higher with light to moderate
box movement.
Yesterday asking prices were around $236 in the South, and $374 in the
North, a light trade was reported in Nebraska and Iowa with dressed deals
marked at mostly $372, $8 lower than last week's weighted averages, light
scattered business took place in the South and was at $235 to $236, $3
lower in Texas, and $5 lower in Kansas.
For the period of February 27 to March 5, beef net sales of 25,400 MT for
2026--a marketing-year high--were up noticeably from the previous week
and up 87 percent from the prior 4-week average. Increases were primarily
for South Korea (11,600 MT), Japan (5,900 MT), Hong Kong (3,200 MT),
Taiwan (1,200 MT), and Mexico (1,000 MT). Exports of 11,400 MT were down
23 percent from the previous week and 14 percent from the prior 4-week
average. The destinations were primarily to South Korea (3,500 MT), Japan
(3,300 MT), Mexico (1,100 MT), Taiwan (1,100 MT), and Hong Kong (1,000
MT).
